THIS MONTH'S THEME IS LOVE - 'HOW TO LOVE' - THICH NHAT HANH

THICH NHAT HANH is a world renowned writer, poet, scholar and Zen Buddhist monk.  This is an excerpt from his beautiful book on 'HOW LOVE.'   THE FOUR ELEMENTS OF TRUE LOVE True love is made of four elements: LOVING KINDNESS, COMPASSION, JOY, and EQUANIMITY.  In Sanskrit, these are, maitri, karuna, mudita, and upeksha. If your love contains these elements, it will be healing and transforming, and it will have the element of holiness in it. True love has the power to heal and transform any situation and bring deep meaning to our lives.  LOVING KINDNESS The first element of true love is loving kindness. DIWALI – FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

This month, millions of people around the world will celebrate light over darkness. Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is the biggest festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists around the world. The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning "rows of lighted lamps". Houses, shops and public places are decorated with small oil lamps called diyas at this time of year and people visit their relatives to share Indian sweets and gifts and to engage in huge celebration feasts. There is also a strong belief in giving to those in need and it is also traditional for homes to be cleaned and new clothes to be worn. During the festivities, the sky is also a mass of breath taking beauty as golden...

BE HERE LOVES SPIRITUAL SEPTEMBER

GANESH CHATURTHI is a beautiful and glorious 10 day Hindu festival that reveres the great and glorious god Ganesha who we often honour in yoga class by chanting his name before practise. Lord Ganesha as we know stands for the remover of obstacles and is the god of new beginnings. We like to think of September as being a month that brings us just that. A new chapter and a fiercely fresh start that January never quite lives up to. The ten-day festivities start on the fourth day of Hindu luni-solar calendar month Bhadrapada, which typically falls at the start of September. The festival is marked with installations of Ganesha idols in homes, or publicly on elaborate stages. Vedic hymns are chanted and Hindu texts are used...
